In 2024, the Pan-Amazonian Institute (IPA), together with a team of expert consultants from each Amazonian country (Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Brazil, Guyana, and Suriname), prepared a comparative analysis of the policies and strategies implemented by the States of the eight countries, both for the comprehensive protection and safeguarding of the biome and for the fulfillment of their commitments and goals in terms of biodiversity and climate change.
Through this collective exercise—enriched by multiple voices, sectors, and experiences — key synergies and concrete opportunities were identified to promote effective regional cooperation. These synergies and opportunities are part of six urgent actions designed to address the environmental, climate, and social challenges posed by the proximity of a critical threshold for the Amazon biome.
This summary highlights six priority actions and proposes four possible joint positions for countries in the Amazon Region, which, in the current situation, have a high potential to strengthen collaboration and translate political will into concrete results. The proposal, as a whole, is an invitation to move forward together from assessment to transformative action.
